The United States And The Economy
62It's Really Sad
I have to write this just because I have to get it off my chest. I know this subject has been beat to death, but I can't help it. I am so sick of the way things in our precious country is headed and the turmoil that exists that I could literally "pinch somebody's head off".
Everything that we as citizens are doing in this country, working hard to make ends meet, trying to live each and every day within our means, only to see products being introduced to this country that are from foreign lands. What happened to the good products that are being made here on our own soil? Can you name ONE single product that is being exported to a single country? Most every product I pick up is an import from a different country, some that are not even our allies. It is sickening.
Our food prices are reaching an all time high and don't even get me started on the gas. That, my friends is nothing but total GREED. Salaries are at a stand still, while prices of goods are increasing every day. I have no earthly idea how single parents, who work, can pay for day care, groceries, gas, rent, insurance and medical costs. Some of these people that make minimum wage with overhead so high that it will boggle the mind. Hell, not just single parents, but working adults that have been at their jobs for years are struggling just to pay for these necessities as well.
Where does it stop? Washington can't agree on one bill, let alone making cuts to the budget and removing the fat, but they expect every American citizen to sacrifice their wages, and cut down on their own personal spending.
Cost of living just keeps rising, while companies and corporations keep gouging the consumer, JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN. Where is the justice? Where is the American dream? Where are our own American made products? They were out sourced, that's were they went. How has that workout for us?
No wonder people decide to walk away from their homes and go on welfare, it's the only pay that you get. And by the way, some of those recipients receive more money and benefits than a salaried employee that that gets no cost of living raise because the company they work for has cut back on their own spending.
I do NOT claim to have the answers to any of the questions, but all I know is that our country is not owned by the people of the United States, but by other countries.

"I could literally 'pinch somebody's head off'."
Haven't heard that one since I lived in Kentucky! :-)
This is inflation, and it's caused directly by government spending money it does not have. To pay those debts, government prints more money, which has the effect of making all money worth less than it used to be, forcing business to charge more to make up the difference. Wages will eventually catch up, but they always lag far behind.
Woe, glad you got that out of your system. Many of us are mad for the same reasons you point out. As of yet there are no good solutions and fewer and fewer options for the people. One thing is apparent, the government does not work for the people.
Like Will said...as long as our government keeps printing borrowed money, we will continue to face inflation. In fact, I believe we are just starting to see hyper-inflation come into play from the devaluation of the dollar. I have viewed some studies that claim we will see gas prices at over $30/gallon and milk at $40/gallon within the next two years. As scary as this thought is, it looks like it just may become a reality for us very soon.
One of the biggest concerns is that this country cannot even balance the budget without huge tax increases. Any government official who even mentions raising taxes will be shunned forever! While tax increases are not something any of us wish to see, it is the only way to fight hyper-inflation. And we all know that none of the mucky-mucks we have in office will do anything to help our country, so it is time to prepare for massive inflation.
The only advice that I can think of is to look out for yourself by growing your own food and learning to create your own energy. We may not be able to afford anything but simple living very soon, the time is now to prepare, or get caught with your pants down...
Ironically, the same unions that saved America from the sweatshops are the ones that have driven business outside the country. With so much imported products on our shelves, American producers cannot compete anymore...what a sad situation. Everyone wants a decent wage but some want far more...just look at the response in Wisconsin. You make a solid point on gasoline. The companies that control the world markets use every opportunity as an excuse to raise prices. The unrest in Libya was cited just last week as the cause for a 15 cent per gallon jump at the pump yet Libya only supplies about 1% of the crude oil in the world...lies, just lies. I don't know how these CEO's look at themselves in the mirror. Ultimately, they are driving the one factor (energy) which will absolutely throw the American economy into total choas in a short timeframe. We are already seeing it in shelf prices for food and retail items and it will get worse quickly. As gasoline prices rise, people will restrict or change their consumer habits which will only put more and more businesses in jeopardy and more people out of work. We are creating our own destructive destiny and not lifting a finger to change it. We are not drilling in the Gulf and not drilling in Alaska and I cannot imagine a time when it would be better to get started...what are we waiting for...economic collapse? Thanks for a good article! WB
The U.S. needs to default on it's loans from China due to it's unfair trade standards and cut military spending by a third.;)
As long as Americans continue to get p!ssed, and put sever pressure on Washington...as the Tea Party did last November....the voice of Americans is being heard. The gov of WI and NJ are the most recent to take a stand against spending....I have hope yet.
Useful hub , thanks for sharing it.
Very well put!!! As a small business owner - I pay more and more and more taxes every year! I don't get it - I get stuck paying a higher tax amount because I worked harder? YES!
This downward spiral just seems to be getting worse. Good point - I don't want my tax dollars used for that! I'm so sorry you had to close a business - it is scary. In my area several restaurants, small shops and cafe's have had to close because no one can afford to pay for all the "extra things". Every time I see one more has closed down - it's scary. It's tax time too!
Everyone has such great, interesting and informative comments...Now if we could just put them wear they would do the most good...What a great country we could have once again! Good Hub, Kindacrazy.
Wayne said what I believe also! Unions, entitlements etc. these are the culprits behind jobs going overseas! Why pay some union thug to build it for 30 dollars a hour when you can get the same product overseas for 1 dollar per hour! Nike realized this years ago and made alot of money doing it! I think business is stupid NOT to do it, rather than fight this idiot unons! let them starve!
Kindacrazy - I love how you think and write:-)
Haha! Thank you for taking your time to read while I work on getting better:-)
And we might consider that ever since the Federal Reserve took over control of our money (1913) the value of your dollars has dropped by 95%. Not only that, but the Fed caused the Great Depression, which allowed Socialism to creep into our country, making dependents out of nearly all of us.
You are asking some very good questions! Only some of the answers are not quite to the point.
It's no longer your country or your government. It's them v. the people. It's the multinationals who sold out local jobs to other countries and they have the lobbyists to sell the rest for the best price THEY can get!
No other country spends 1/4 of it's GDP on the military - and why are working people putting up with this? People should be asking for better health care and better education instead - why don't they? Many years of brainwashing and talk about the American Dream, Our Country and Our Troops ... while ordinary people were being sold out by the establishment one day after another!
It's time you became a social activist, teamed up with others and started building your own co-op, grass roots businesses in your local communities all over the place before it all comes to an end ... and the end is near!

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I think Manhattan belongs to China!
